I haven't posted in some time . I moved from Martha's Vineyard to the Berkshires. I purchased a property that dates to the 1700's much of it open field. I found an old well in the field and pulled a dozen or so coppers ( some I'll get to posting ). I've started to work some other areas and yesterday pulled these two. They were both at about 8 inches deep. The soil is super rich and not nice to these coins . The Nova is in better shape than the Fugio. The Fugio is completely reached out on one side but the rings are clearly legible. No silver from this field yet ? Will post more soon !!
Okay, i just added a pic of a few other coppers i recovered near the well hole. For the most part the soil has had its way with them. Will post again with new finds.
I went back to the area I dug the Fugio yesterday and while I didn't score any coins I did dig this ornate spoon handle and posted a pic of it here. Any comments welcomed !

Way to go Flyingbuy! Those two coins are pretty high up on my bucket list. Nice to know that they're still out there to be found. I also look forward to seeing your other discoveries.

Thanks for the comments and feedback. I know these are both coins I've wanted to dig and getting them both on the same day was not what I would have expected. I hope to be back out there this week and will post any findings.

Nice recoveries from your own field.
Looking forward in seeing what else you've dug.
Nothing can beat digging in your own dirt and coming up with early coinage as this.
Best of luck on getting a silver.

Great finds fellow Mass hunter! Can't wait to see the ones you've already found and more to come- GL!!
Hi, I just posted an additional pic of a few coppers I recovered near the well. For the most part they are toasted. I will post more as I clean them and recover more.

A Fugio and a Nova on the same day? That's insane. The Nova is actually pretty nice compared to some others I've seen dug. I finally dug a Nova last year after 30 years of looking. The Fugio is still on my bucket list.

Nice coin and find

Those are a couple of great coppers. Finding them on your own property makes them even more special. Bound to be silver there somewhere, maybe Spanish. Good luck!
Thanks, I'd love to find some Spanish silver !! 28 acres to search swinging a 6- 10inch coil !!! Could take awhile but there's nothing like hitting on a target you know is good 👍

Great finds, congratulations! Really unfortunate for the condition, some soils just don't like those coppers..
Yes, when I lived on Martha's Vineyard the soil was very granular and the coins I dug on farm lands were actually in great shape. The soil I'm digging in now is almost black and very dense. More acid content. I'm hoping to dig anything silver to see how it's survived?

I agree , this field has a few wet areas as well. Unless the coins are silver or gold the chance of them being in good shape is not great. This is the field I'm working.
