:icon_scratch: Has anyone owned or used a Garrett Ace 150? I know they are an entry level machine and all but I also know Garrett is a major player in the MDing world. I also have found while researching that the 250 & 350 naturally have more bells and whistles than the 150 but they come with the extra cost.
Basically I would be using the machine for dry sand hunts as well as maybe some parks/tot lots/schoolyards, etc. I have read many positive reviews online but I wanted your opinions. I realize like any new and different machine I would need to learn it and work with the settings as well as sweeping the coil. Any feedback would be appreciated.

You can used Ace 250's for between $100~$200, often with extra coils and tools.

i bought my daughter the ace 150 and really wish i went with the 250, the 150 doesn't have the pinpointing feature which is very handy and time saving. as said before you can pick up a used 250 for 100-175 bucks, if you search around you can even find a new ace 250 for around 180 bucks.

I have a 250 and a 350 and have owned a 150 in the past. The 350 is a much hotter machine IMO. probably because of the DD coil. True you can get a DD coil for the 150 or 250, but you must add the cost of the coil to the cost of the machine. If you can make it happen, I would recommend the 350 over the others, hands down. Barring that, I agree with dogpound and wildman - get a good used 250.

Yes......and a great backup with the sniper coil to tag along with the ACE 250 large coil or GTI 2500. We all know the strengths of the sniper coil, so I won't get into that. And I water proofed an ACE 150 some years back, and it worked swell. Got me some nice rings with it too.

The 150 is a fine machine. Pinpointing takes some practice but I figured out how to do it real quick. It double pings at the front loop closest to the center. There you are right on top of your prize!

I sold my Ace 250 with all three original coils, two extra lower rods and the rain cap for $250 (asked $275), so they retain a lot of their value.

The Ace 150 is good for someone who is 100% sure they don't plan on "moving up" in the metal detecting world. It is a great value and it will find anything an Ace 250 will find. Unfortunately, for everyone else, I feel as though it was made just so you WOULD upgrade to a better model. It's #1 downside is a lack of pinpoint mode. It still gets good depth and is fairly accurate. I would get the Ace 150 for a kid or as a loaner for hunting with friends and family occasionally.
