There are gemstones to be found in Indiana however they are not commonly found because Indiana is not known for large deposits of them.In the northern half of the state search the stream beds and gravel pits. The gravel deposits were transported by glaicers from Canada.Garnets, sapphires, and diamonds have been found in them, gold has been found also.

In the Hoosier National Forest rocks may be removed for personal use and gold may be panned in the streams.

I would suggest contacting a local rogkhounding club.

I have found 3 very small diamonds and a few good size garnets while sluicing and high-banking on NW Indiana creeks in my free time, with only using all home built stuff.... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
