Giant Wood Fossil & Cone in Cone

Made a trip out of the area today, took pic's of
a large wood fossil that came out of local mines in Eastern OK
A worker carried it home , with several more, it is a (Sigalaria) I believe, also visited a shale area & found these, (cone in cone),
they resemble a doodle bug hole in the dirt.
I used to hear a little poem--Doodle bug Doodle bug, won't you come home, your house is on fire & your children all gone. ;D

Re: Giant Wood Fossil & Cone in Cone

Is that a petrified tree stump? I've heard of entire petrified tree trunks blocking the progress of a mine tunnel here in the Mother Lode during the early 1900's. There are all kinds of giants in the earth, aren't there? Cool stump. What's the cone within a cone thing? I've seen petrified pine cones from Arizona that when cut and polished are absolutely fantastic. So many weird and wonderful natural items to discover and examine. Thanks for sharing your finds with us.

The version of the poem I used to hear was:

Ladybug, ladybug
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire
Your children may burn.

Nice sentiment, huh?!! LOL

Hey, treasure Tales, Yes it is petrified wood, I have seen several bigger than this one, they were a common find at one time,(lots of flower bed decorations), LOL.
The mines are mostly reclaimed now.
At one time you could see the whole wall of one mine glistening in the sunlight, (pyrite), when they moved to a new location, they ran out of the wood, & started finding small sea shells,& Ammonites.
Gotta get out my book on the cone-in-cone,maybe someone will chime in before I find it.

Got it !! (Cone in cone), A concretionary structure occuring in marls, ironstones, coals, etc., characterized by the development of a sucession of cones one within the other.

Doodle bug also known as a (ant lion), devour their prey when it slips into their little cone shaped holes, & can't climb out. ;D
