I was there several years ago, and with 6 miles of beach...anywhere is great. Some hotels have guards on beach duty and will not allow you to detected the dry sand unless you have the wrist band from that hotel. We did not rent a car...and after three bus rides, I would not want to and I have driven in many foreign countries. Keep an eye on the waves and deep gullies. No other problems except not having enough time to cover all the 6 miles of beach. Good Luck.

Thanks, I just hunt the water anymore. Dry sand is back breaking...:skullflag:

Aloha all. I'm heading down to the DR for a week and would love to hear from those that have been there and can offer up any tips or locations. I'll be staying beach front in Punta Cana so I imagine that'll be a good place to start. Where are the more popular locals beaches at? Thanks in advance. Finderzzs
Havent seen you post in a long time...have you been detecting?...good luck on your trip.

No clue on the DR, but on the news they have been going on and on about this mosquito disease called chickungunya, every one who gets it just returned from the DR, so make sure you use lots of repellant, this is a nasty disease that you and your family don't want. aside from that, HH!

YOU DONT WANT TO HIT LOCAL SPOTS - LOTS OF GLASS AND SCREW CAPS FROM ALCOHOLIC BOTTLES - LOTS OF SMALL DENOMINATION COINS - WHICH YOULL ONLY GET IN ALL METAL MOST OF THE TIME CAUSE THEY ARE MADE OF CRAP METALS
DOM.REP PEOPLE ARE POOR - NOT LIKE OTHER ISLANDS WHERE THEY WEAR GOLD - IN FACT THEY WILL BE ASKING YOU - "ORO..ORO" TO SEE IF YOU HAVE FOUND ANY - i JUST ANSWER "PESOS" - THERE COINS ARE WORTH I THINK LIKE A 10TH OF OURS
WILL SEND YOU A LINK TO ARTICLES IVE WRITEN - ONE THERE HAS ONE ON PUNTA CANA - YOU SHOULD DO GOOD IN THE WATERS IN FRONT OF ANY OF THE HOTELS - BEST TO GET IN AT SUNRISE WHERE YOU HAVE THE WHOLE OCEAN TO YOURSELF
THERE ARE A COUPLE OF LOCAL HUNTERS - BUT THEY ARE SHORT - YOU WILL SEE IN MY ARTICLE (ONE GUY IS LIKE A PIGMY) AND HUNT IN THE SHALLOWS - I DID HIT A FEW SPOTS THAT WERE TOTALLY CLEAN IN CLOSE AND ONE OF THESE GUYS WAS THE REASON
GOOD LUCK

14 PIECES OF GOLD - 38 PIECES OF SILVER AND OVER 450 COINS - ONE OF MY BETTER TRIPS

Wow! I'm amazed at the amount of ORO you find!

MY GAL AND I BEEN THERE TWICE - RENTED A CAR BOTH TIMES WITH NO PROBS -- ALLOWED ME TO TRAVEL TO A FEW OTHER SPOTS TO GET GOLD

Yes, I've been around, but not as much hunting as usual, concentrating on making money...LOL.

I've seen that video, but he/you didn't find anything in it....☺

he works completely opposite of the way I do - 90% of the time - all you would see of me was the top of my head - my headphones and top of my snorkel

Best way:thumbsup:
in the chest deep water where people tend to stand (and loses stuff) but just too deep for them to retrieve!

I was there recently. You will be on the Atlantic side which can be rough. I only got in the water 2 days. Tons of Russian coins and pesos, one gold and one silver this trip, all in the wet sand or very shallow water. Last trip I got 2 gold rings. The locals are out and I saw the one Casper said was like a pygmy! He was snorkeling with his excal. There is lots of beach to hunt so have fun!

Why the abundance of Russian coins do you think?

I will probably be heading to Haiti this summer:thumbsup:

I was told hat the DR is one of a few places that Russians can travel to with out a Visa, So there are a lot of them there.
and also there is some sort of luck thing to through your coins in the ocean before you leave
so needless to say you will find a lot of Russian coins.
Good Luck Jim
