Gold Rush Era Finds. Chinese History

Hi All, I went for a new years hunt today with a few friends. We went to a old sight that has a history of the gold rush and the Chinese that came in from then on.

I ended up finding a really cool opium tin lid. I was not sure what it was at first but I was able to look it up and find others like it online. Then I dug a Chinese coin. Pretty busted up but still always fun to dig these.

By the end of the day I had only dug a Oklahoma Tax token, Toy money, silver plated long spoon and a few other coins they were just wheats with one being a 1917s. 2 other too toasty to make out.

My friends found some newer silver, A silver ring and a couple other Chinese coins. Happy New Year everyone..:hello2:

Cool finds, Jackalope...something tells me that there has GOT to be some gold coins out there! They tossed those Chinese coins around like nobody's business, you'd think they'd be all jacked up on opium and drop a gold coin or 2. Thx for sharing, Ddf.

Nice way to kick things off!

Tom and I found a Chinese fishing village in BFE. Last time there he got a couple of opium tin lids like yours, I got buttons and lantern parts, but we didn't get any coins or other interesting relics. Will need to detect that spot again with the 800's before the grasses take off. BTW I've always heard that the Chinese preferred to transact in gold, so dig it all.

I actually fond that at a old school house so no go there. My wife described it as a Ice tea spoon but It has a deep cup on it for that I thought.

Congrats on pulling all that from the same era. I believe that spoon looks like a drink stir for cocktails. Ya know something the miners may have enjoyed during after hours.

China didn't mint any silver or gold coins until the 1900s, they used other countries' silver. So we could be finding what they dropped but not realize it.
