Gold Pan collection

I can't help it I'm a collector so don't ask why.

Most were bought at yard sales with the exception of the two
Green Garrett Gravity trap and super sluice.

I have 53 in pictures and 2 not shown for a total of 55


My favorites

1) 14" black Proline Professional

2) 14" Garrett Gravity trap (wish it was black)

3) 15" Garrett super sluice (I need two hands to use)

4) 14" No name black with Y that channels your Cons (also holds you thumb)

5) 11" finishing is black and marked 1849 gold pan made in California.
I have a few of these only one has a wide bottom (the one I like)



A little fall color and some un-panned drywash cons.

I've only found one gold pan detecting. Either they rotted out quickly or were highly prized possessions. I think a little of both, but mostly the latter.

I don't see a square pan, most efficient way to pan if you can't run a sluice.

Mike, good post. I'd like to add to it with this 1957 Kress pan. The history of this pan is on my blog and the pan is now back in the possession of Mr. Kress's nephew.

Very cool and thanks for the history on that pan. I would have had a hard time letting that one go and glad the nephew has it.

Yep -- those three out of all I have tried are in my opinion the best.

I’ve found gold rush era hand punched circular screens that I suspect were made to place in the bottom of a mining pan...so it’s not a new idea..not even in the 1950’s.

Looks useful though.

The one I have been using for over 30 years is the Le Trap square pan, the inventor had a mining club up here in Washington, never got to meet him but I did mine with some of the members of the club.

Question -- do you use two hands when you use it and are you hunched over?
Youtube vid I watched did not make it look to comfortable.

It is one handed and fast, I am 6ft.1 and have no problems with my back using it. Just as when panning sit on a soft rock and pan, lol, once you figure it out you wont go back to a round pan except for cleanout.

I didn't see a Gold Saver pan from Roaring camp in your collection. It's the only pan I use. I can speed pan a full pan to cons in under a minute. And the gold stays where it's supposed to.

Very cool collection, Mike! I had found this one at an estate sale. I dont believe the pan is that old but i liked the painting. It says "Alaska 1982 konesky"

Here is my Aussi. Turbo pan they us it for speed panning competition , I traded one of my Rattler Gold screens for it , I sell them on another website , It is 16" wide you need a lot of water so I don't use it very much out in the Desert.
