I wanted to share the following "saw" that I have been carrying. I rarely need a saw. Most of the time, I can cut through the roots, using my Lesche or Sampson shovel. Last week, I got a strong signal located under a root that was over 1" thick.
I have been carrying this Austrian (German) army pocket knife that I picked up on surplus for around $9. It has a saw blade that is approximately 3" and it is extremely aggressive. It made very short work of the root and I was really impressed. I have carried other saws in the past that were either too flimsy, too big or just didn't have enough gumption to cut.
I have mine hanging from the D-ring on the Buzz Wilson sheath. It is stays within reach of my pinpointer and Lesche.
I can see a use for most of the blades, but I guess the corkscrew would be for opening the bottle of wine that I pick up on the way home, once I hit it big.
