I wasn't sure it was the real deal, I was worried it might be a a plated jewelry piece that fell out of a necklace that I found 6-inches deep,, during low tide on my east coast metal detecting trip, but I had a local coin expert look at the 2 escudos and he confirmed that I found a real Spanish gold coin 🪙!
Awesome day! Looking at the edge though, I do suspect it fell out of a necklace. Still need to dissolve some conglomerates and figure out a couple mystery items.
Of course there was plenty of misc. aluminum & fishing lures before my killer find. I started shaking when my eyes saw that gold coin in my scoop!

Solid tone of 16 to 17 from every direction of the compas on my Nox 800. I put the coin on top of the coil in the pic to show the ID. Still walking on air about this one! All the best of luck to you!

Great save !!
At the 5:30 position are the initials MF for the Madrid assayers Maniel de Lamas and Francisco Herrera who worked together 1788-1802.
Don.....
Don,
I am curious if the crown symbol over the "M" left of the MF in the pic has any significance
20230208_002135.jpg
or the "S" right of center?

Just curious.

As I suspected, I tested the 2 escudos for you & it was a solid tone, id# 17, on Field 1 & 2 as well on my Nox. All the best of luck.

Way to go! You gotta be thinking, “are any more near the same spot?”
Oh yes,
I went back to that area many times while I was there, hoping for more goodies. Those finds are rare ones.
