We have still had only a small amount of rain that had no affect. We found some fields where they had recently disced up the Wheat stubble. Lumpy & not that walkable without my spade-walking stick. (plus needed the brick hammered to break the clay lumps)
We went on a field that was the first one after harvest that was actually on the target list. It was the neighbour to the Roman Grubbed-Out Hedge Site. It only had 7 bronze Roman coins recorded on it but we wanted to do a big grid to see if this was just an isolated pocket or something else. After 5 hours & only 4 scrappies we concluded its not worth returning to this low yield area. (not even an artefact)
We then did 30 mins on the next field & got another 3 coins & called it a day;

7 Roman Coins
1860 Farthing
1938 Egyptian 5 Millieme
Victorian Police Button (OTWBTTC)
Victorian Horse Boss

An egyptian coin must be a first to most of us... At least you didn't came home empty handed, got a better picture of this (neigh)boring field and had a day out in the fields.
We got 12mm rain that night and we'll give it a try tomorrow...

I imagine you don't find too many Victorian police buttons... that's an interesting find...may the rain return to your area and soften the ground... that's tough digging...
