I got out this morning . . . solo. . . to a cellar hole that a few of us had hit
in the past and found a few pieces that we must have overlooked.
But, when you consider hunting through 4" of snow over 2" of leaves, I can
understand how these may have been missed.

I had no great expectations but was willing to take whatever was given.

Anyway, my first target was a HUGE harmonica reed (not pictured) and shortly
thereafter, I found some type of military campaign/medal (on the "What is it" forum).

Toward the end of my hunt, I found a 1870 Shield Nickel (which rang up as a lead slug)
and then a copper flat button. I wish I could have stayed longer :P

Take care guys!

Whoa, nice looking medal there Mark! Hope it turns out to be somewhat rare. Even so, its a
great piece!
Congrats on the nickel too... can't get much older of a 5 center that that!

wow two hunts two oldies. Very nice old nickel :icon_thumright: That badge is awesome too, i guess if you could figure out the other flag besides the U.S. flag you might be able to figure out what it was for. :read2: nice find.

Sweet digs Mark! Hey Bob, you see how he's doin' you now that you're down! Geez, within 20 yards of this shot!
