Hard won treasure today 🫤

After a week of over night frosts and bitterly cold days, today was bright and sunny, so off we went!

I have been doing research on these fields, and discovered a Roman road cuts thru this field, so we embarked on our quest across the field!
The only downside was that the soil was frozen, so we had to work hard to get anything out the ground… 🫤

But… we managed a full day, loads of iron grunts across the whole field, but here are the results… an awesome brooch (?) a strange buckle (?)
a key(?) another clothes fastener, little patterned bits of lead, a livery button, the usual mix of other buttons, couple of buckles, some crusty coins, no Id possible unfortunately one has been drilled, a big lead disk and some big chunks of lead. xx

Update… the pretty brooch is a saxon/ viking Cloisonné brooch … xx


Update 2. THE “strange buckle” is (I think) a 13th Century ring brooch …. It is 2 people … the lumps are their heads… holding hand.. bodies are the sides, then joined at their feet …Wow 🤯 xx

A couple stunners there.
The jewelry piece , and the pin. The pin elaborate compared to the "blanket" kind I've seen here in the States. (Multiple uses both.)

Ancient stuff enough to gasp about compared to the young grounds I hunt!

Holed coins meant something to thier owners. And were nearly a part of them a while.
One may imagine part of the owner transferred to the coin over time as well. Not unlike long worn beads. I'll take either! l.o.l..

Ahh thank you… the brooch could be a Cloisonné brooch … circa 11 century… but im still looking..!! xx

I like that brooch. Looks very old. I wonder if it would be good idea to seal it with thinned glue or something to prevent it from deteriorating further?

The key is really unusual with its shape and love the Saxon broach that still retains some of its color! Great finds!

They are normally beast heads like Lions, see above. Yeap 13th C & pretty rare, although I thought some dipped into the late Norman period.(I believe)
Not had a complete one.

The cloisonne brooch is special & my example above made banner. This is the only one Cru'dad & I have ever found.

The keys are described as 14th C Casket Keys, but I don't think they were used on small boxes.

You are filling some difficult holes early in your detecting life - CONGRATS
