Today in Eastern NC was very windy and cool. Good thing about it is the high winds blew the river out exposing the river bottom. I braved the wind and cold and was rewarded with this nice Hardee Hat Pin. I haven't been doing much detecting for awhile, so this was a nice way to get back into it.

Being from North Carolina I was expecting to see a Hardees burger joint hat pin from the 1970's. This was so much better! Thanks to VPNavy's post I have learned something new.

Man, that's a super sweet one. In addition to being one of the prettiest insignias of the war years, it's def one of the most FRAGILE and therefore, rarely found as nice as this! Well done!

Nice find! Never heard of a "Hardee Hat Pin" so I looked it up - here is a nice article: The Hardee Hat Pin - Posted on December 19, 2014 by Bob Williams "...One of the most attractive insignia items utilized during the Civil War period...more..."[/QUOTE

I had never heard of it either. After I found it I brought it back to the house so I wouldn't damage it and went back out to detect. My wife was the one who actually researched it and found out what it was.
