Harmonica reeds

I went back to the area where I recently found the Eagle I button. Recovered three harmonica reed pieces, a flattened piece of lead my neighbor believes to be buckshot and a third piece I need help on identifying. The quarter is for size reference. The back side of the piece is shown in the picture with the other objects. The close-up is the front side. Incased in the scroll work is the word "leader". Thanks for looking.

I can tell you that I've seen something similar to that piece at the top left before...I'm looking for it now for you. In the meantime, it looks like what you have there on the right is a piece of iron grape shot.

johntate, ModernMiner and myself have both found pieces similar to yours lately. I don't recall anyone having a positive ID though.

I actually wonder if this is a garter clip...

Women associated with the "world's oldest profession" frequently followed regiments of troops around. It looks about the right size and shape.

Not garter... to heavy... here is a garter clip:



I really think your piece was sewn into the end of a leather suspender, or belt, rivited through the holes, and the hook part was free to grab or hook the suspender strap from the pants.

I can see that.

But I really don't know.

I tumbled one exactly like yours last week. But it says (“Catch On”),
and is in cursive writing and quotations. I remember fastener like that being used on coveralls and the likes. I think it dates back to the 20’s.
