Has anyone tried looking for Viking Gold in the waters?

When an important Viking died they would put their body on a boat, fill it with silver and gold and food and swords, light it on fire and push it off into the water.

That boat would sink a hundred yards off the water's edge and all the loot would sink to the bottom.

Coins, goblets, jewelry, gems, all sitting there waiting to be found. I'm sure a small part has been recovered, but treasure hunters usually look for the bigger ships, not the small boats they would send out their dead on.

A very timely question. I live in New England close to a river that local legend says was visited by Vikings in the very distant past. Needless to say I have metal detected this water. Attached is a piece of jewelry that I found some time ago at very low tide in about 3 feet of water. At the time I tried to identify its origin, but was unsuccessful. Since then I have done further on line research and am suspicious that is may be of Viking origin. What do you or anyone else think? It is obviously very old, has a Viking like cross, is heavy, likely copper, and as far I can tell the cross is embedded in an amber like substance.
