my second head stamp. first with my new detector. ace 400.

Shotgun shell headstamps help date the occupation or use of the property...,
AND they are collectable. Some of my early memories are with my dad,
shooting pheasants and quail, with a .410 - so I like to collect all of them myself...!

I dont count too much on shotgun headstamps alone to date a site. Many a hunter or shooter has walked upon older sites and left these calling cards. But you gotta dig them or you will miss some good older stuff.

UMC stands for Union Metallic Cartridge. That brass is from a Remington New Club 12ga. shotshell. IIRC, the New Club was black powder, was preceded by the UMC/Remington Arrow, and was proceeded by the Remington Nitro Club which is smokeless powder.
