I haven't fired up the metal detector yet but my first find surfaced after this morning's rain, next to my walkway. A nice old 1832 dog tag from Lafayette, Ind. Must either be an unruly dog, farm working dog or police dog. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Wow - pretty sure this is the oldest one I ever seen posted - I would post this in the token and tags forum, there's a thread there specifically for dog tags.

I see you posted there but I would post it under the thread called "got old dog tags" - Or maybe a Mod will move it for you.

BTW - Welcome to TNet !!

I am confident that its not a dog tag.... but what it is...??? No clue.. But it is cool as hell. Seems that its a store card, or tag of some sort, with the merchants name and city on the reverse.

Great find, and welcome to the Net....

I STAND CORRECTED!!!!

It is a dog tag... 1882
I googled the name, clicked on images, and BANG... there it is.

If I was computer literate in any way, I would add a link to it... Great find!!!

Congratulations on the very interesting find!
