Looks like a (British) crown at 12 o'clock & "GILT" at 6.

Qwest, could you take a close look at the bottom word? It's driving me crazy. Gilt or Best ? Thanks.

It has nothing to do with the crown. The raised lettering was used in England until around 1810. After that they used depressed lettering.

Haha. yea it's been driving me nuts too, I did see that button you posted with "best" and what appears to be a bird and stars so it's thrown me off now, but as far as "Gilt" or "Best" It could go either way. I did find it in an area that dates back to the 1730's.

The more I look at it, the more I'm seeing "BEST" The second letter looks more like an E to me.
