Hello everyone, I found this cartridge shell about 6" deep today. I'm wondering what the history is on this round. I think the headstamp says WRA .30 cal Army.

WRA is Winchester Repeating Arms. 30 Army is the 30-40 Krag cartridge,used in the Rifle of the same name by the US. Also used by civilians in several makes and models. The 30-06 was at one time known as the 30 Government to diffrentiate between the two. Search U.S. Krag rifle or U.S. Krag-Jorgenson and you can get some good dates for the rifles. The cartridge may be a bit harder to date since it continued in civilian use long after the military ceased to use it. There,s some guys here who can give you some good dope on the cartridge,they,ll be along soon.
