I found this in bucks uk. It looks to be made of copper and would of had 5 silver stones painted black in but only 2 remain . On the back you can see the fastener. Please any help would be good. I also found another silver ingot within 2 meters of the brooch that is rectangled and weighs 61.78grams . And 1 meter from the last ingot that weighed 40.6grams but has been cut. Could this suggest it may have been a hoard. And the plough has dragged it. I have contacted flo but they are so slow atm. I have done a density check on the ingots and they are showing as silver. I have seen and found viking hack silver before and this look like it been in the ground for a much longer.

Hi,
99% sure the brooch looking object is not Saxon, the pictures are hard to make out but it looks 19th C.

The 2 Lead objects may have small amounts of trace silver in it (not over 10% required by Law), but its mostly lead-alloy, so neither of these object qualify for potential Treasure under the terms of the Act.

Hope this helps, I know the FLO's are very slow, some are not even back in the office yet! Bad.

Hard to really get a sense what the brooch is exactly.
Would love to see a few pictures of your Viking hack silver though.

I think he meant the Hack Silver you found before, not those 2 chucks of Lead.
There not lead. Lead density 11.24 . The density of these are 10.4 . Ice melts extremly fast on them also. I use density to check the silver and gold coins i sell. And i never had anyone say they wernt what they where. Im 99% sure they are silver. But i will not know untill they get collect that apperantly is not until june.

Older lead has many inclusions, thats why I first stated Lead-alloy. It's not pure lead therefore it will not be 11.29 gram/cm3.

You asked a question in the Title of your post (although without a question mark). I have given you my 'help', it's my opinion that they are both Lead-Alloy & that you are not required to report them under the Terms of the Act. However, as you have voluntarily contacted the FLO, you will eventually get the answer. Then generally don't record items less than 300 years old (it does happen sometimes), so I'm going to guess they won't even Record them on the PAS but if they do, please update us? My reasoning for this is that although the Lead-alloy might be Medieval (might be post-medieval), it's very expensive to narrow it down without it being styled in a particular way.

So I will ask again, do you have any pictures of the Viking hack silver that you have recovered in the past?

Actually I thought the density of lead was 11.34

This isn't Hack Silver but a small Anglo-Scandinavian (Viking) ingot I found which was Treasure & the Museum purchased it.
