Hey treasurenet. I found this silver brooch at an old field today. It is stamped 935 and QB, I believe. I would like you to try to help me identify where this brooch is from and how old it is. I believe it is not swedish as it doesnt have the swedish silver mark (known as three crowns or cat foot)

Super piece! I'd say early 1900's. I'd get it fixed and give it to the wife...

Search Kleemann or Jugendstil style brooch for some other examples.

that's a nice piece. my opinion is that it probably dates to around 1920, and is probably Swedish. there's some good information on this link about 935 marked silver. hope it helps.... Swiss hallmarks and other marks found in watch cases

Hey, thanks for your reply :) I don't mean to be rude to you, but it appears you got Sweden and Switzerland mixed up. In Sweden we never stamped silver with 935, only STERLING or 925 or S. The QB hallmark format is not how we year stamp silver in Sweden. I do agree with you in that it might be Swiss or German etc. I'll look up the hallmark. Thank you!

I bought and sold a cast silver piece like that once. I remember it had a makers mark I couldn't I.D. and others who had similar looking pieces listed them as simply "Jugendstil Style" as DCM has mentioned, so that's how I listed mine. To me the use of a chrysoprase stone leads me to believe it's a Danish piece and was made by a smaller studio silversmith who was capitalizing on the arts & craft design that was popular at that time. I took a little time and scanned through all the listed info on this Modern Silver website in hopes I could find your QB mark, but it's either not listed or I missed it. In case I missed it here is the link.  Modern Silver Magazine Home Page If anything the piece speaks for itself in the way it's designed, making it a very nice find you have.

I'm thinking it could be a Jugendstil Brooch (with a synthetic emerald,) which is basically a German made brooch during the Art Nouveau period.

Really nice find :)

It looks like "CB" not "QB". I still couldn't find it though. It's a great looking piece. If I found it I'd be keeping it!

I agree on all counts including the mark. It's definitely appears to be Jugendstil era piece. Personally, I think it is a piece worth having restored. Very nice and very collectible at the moment. If we can track down the maker it would make it that much greater. I'll add that I think the stone could be chalcedony.
