Found this heavy spike like item - if you can zoom in on the pic, it has a screw like tip. It's about 14" long, and widens about half way up.

I'm not sure what it is, but the threaded screw portion was where it was heated & twisted. Possibly done in a old blacksmith shop using a forge.

Looks definitely hand made to me; ie: in a forge. I would venture a guess and say it might be a screwdriver? Was there anything with it when you found it? Like other small pieces of iron? Or perhaps some wood that might have been a handle at some point?

IF the side edges show a one sided blade effect , it could be a wood bit.
A long enough handle and wooden pipes could be made.

There's a flat bladed Gimlet on Etsy this forum won't let me upload..
