He can't be any good. You can actually read the signature. :laughing7:

(PLEASE NOTE THE LAUGHING EMOTICON. MY COMMENT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY. IT WAS NOT A COMMENTARY ON THE ACTUAL QUALITY OF THE WORK.)

It looks well done to me. I googled around a bit and there’s a wiki on a famous architect named Robert Adam who started his career as a painter and apparently his early work was in the style of Salvator Rosa. I looked up Rosa paintings and they look kind of like yours. Here’s one. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1613000692.493747.jpg

The frame mark Louis XV I think is just a manufacturer’s reference to the style of the frame - like so called Louis XV furniture (lots of swirls and gold lol). Frame looks to be much newer than Robert Adam so hopefully just a replacement.

Robert Adam the architect died in 1792 and I can't persuade myself that the clothing style for the costumes of the Tyrolean children could be from a painting within his period of activity. That Tyrolean painting has the same signature as the naked nymph but they're really very different styles as well as very different subjects.

I have a strong suspicion that these are commercial studio-produced pieces of wall art and probably of vintage age. A number of studios churned out nice quality sizeable paintings in popular styles for those who wanted something impressive to hang in a large room. They weren't cheap things. In some cases the artist signature was for a real person employed by the studio but, more often than not, was an invented name used on paintings that were produced by a team of artists (ie Robert Adam may not actually exist).

The 'Luis XV' stamp on the frame is, as said, just a generic style reference that doesn't help much in terms of origin... except that if the '24x36' mark relates to the size in inches then it won't be a continental European frame.

I would think that's about right. Any time from the 1950s through the 1960s. These studios certainly use skilled artists who were able to copy the styles of others.

This feels like the same artist ... I don't know ?

The ears, the small splash of grey in the surrounding backgrounds, and the frame styles, are similar,
but, the signatures differ.

Sure looks like it came from the same source. It's not unknown for an artist's signature to vary over time, but I think this is more evidence that these are studio paintings in copied styles and that Robert Adam never existed... except as an invented name for work coming from several artists employed by the studio.

Incidentally, these paintings are not coming up in my Google searches. Google frustratingly tailors my searches according to my IP address for the UK such that 'American' stuff is often a long way down the 'hits' if it appears at all. Some American sites also decline connection to UK users for copyright, data protection, or other reasons. That suggests to me that these paintings have come from an American commercial studio offering original 'wall art'.

I don't think it helps with the research but the castle behind the children is Neuschwanstein.

Google frustratingly tailors my searches according to my IP address

I feel your pain on this. Not only does it tailor based on IP but results are also influenced by your previous search topics.

My topics are all over the board from doing Treasurenet research. I sometimes get some very questionable results from my searches as Google tries to "help" me by guessing what I'm looking for...

Classical Revival Painting is one term I'm seeing. They will copy ... but, also modify colors and styles per your request. Agree with Red-Coat, the artists sign different names. (apparently to differentiate them from the originals)
Could be very difficult to determine a precise age because you can order them today.

I'm impressed how the modern artists pull this off. (It's similar to the Reddit, Wallstreetbets, ... the modern masses taking on the old establishment).

"These display images are not the actual oil paintings you will receive. After your payment has been cleared, we will start to paint them for you in oil paint on canvas. Since your art piece will be painted for you, it does take several weeks to paint and about two weeks to mail to you (IN MOST CASES, YOU SHOULD HAVE THE PAINTING IN ABOUT ONE MONTH). This timeframe also depends on customs in both China and in your country. Please consider these factors carefully prior to your purchase.

Size: 24X36inch 24"X36"inch .1inch=2.54cm. Do you like another painting or photograph better than the ones listed? We can paint portraits, nudes, landscapes, seascapes, animals, abstract images, etc. Contact us for a quote. Prices vary by size and details in final painting. All images will be reviewed for copyright regulations. Send us any image, and we will let you know if it can painted and how much it will cost."

I love threads like this. They're interesting and informative. I never cease to be amazed at what people ferret out and what they contribute in search of an answer. And I say this because I spent time trying to research this painting and I didn't find anything worth posting. (so I made a smart-ass remark :tongue3:)

TNetters are the best.

I'll admit I am entertained by many of the smart-ass remarks on the forum. It's the dumb-ass remarks I could do without...
