Found this neat looking thing on an old farm dating back to the 1700s. I thought that it might be equestrian related, like a bridle piece, or saddle piece, anyone ever dug something like this before?

Looks like it was connected to iron at some point. Maybe a lamp/lantern hanger?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's about an ounce or so.

I think Village may be on to something thinking it may be a bridle bit. It may be to small for a bit but there are some short ones out there. This link has quite a few antique brass bits. It may be worth while to shoot them an email with a photo of it, you never know what they might turn up about it.
