The weather was hot and the finds were heavy 😅 so today’s search took us onto old deer park… now an Oil seed rape field. We found musket balls, another little lead thing (? ) A button and what looks like a squashed lead bell it weighs 219gms.

A pretty horse bridle boss, a superb horse shoe which weighs 500gms but my ultimate find of the day the heaviest lead item… it weighs 600gms and is just amazing! As ever any help with id’s is so much appreciated xx

That door knocks lead jobby is really cool.
Is it flat on the other side?
The shoe has some age to it.
How was the soil for digging?
Yes flat on the back.. has an x on it? The soil was actually great, it was nice and loose, so digging was easy! x

That horseshoe is awesome. Hope some experts out there can give some insight into that one. I've had a couple of big horses, and grew up around plow teams and huge teams pulling at the fair, but never saw any that big. You find some great things over there.

Thank you, as ever x Its very beautiful!
It is a very good example, not seen that pattern before. The Long Cross could mirror the coins of the time (circa Ed I), but it does look a nice early example. Most are shield shaped, but do vary a lot.
