I can’t believe I went to the Goodwill today just to pass through and I saw the sword on the glass I asked to see it realized it was a Marine Corps sword and they were asking $99 for it I did some research and I’m glad I saw it it is broken on one of the side handle which was disappointing but I’m very happy with what I have anybody have any idea of what the handle is made of? On that last picture there’s some spots all over one side of the swords shaft sorry I don’t know the tactical word for it I’m just starting out at these flea markets. But there’s some spots all over one side I was wondering what it is and how do I clean it or should I clean it

I can top that. My first trip to Brazil I was going to impress them with my Portuguese. At a picnic, I meant to say to an engineer's wife that she was a very nice lady. Or something like that. Somehow it came out that I thought she was very desrable and sexy. Did not fo well but I pleaded ignorance. Which was easy.

As has been stated, that,s a USMC Officers sword,Mameluke hilt,to enshrine the courage of Lt.Presley O,Bannon at the battle of Tripoli. I was a Sgt. I worked for a living and wore a USMC NCO sword on the few occasions it was required!
Where does it say who’s sword it was?

I,ve never seen one engraved with a name. They,re not issued, you have to buy them if you need them. I borrowed one the couple times I needed to have one for ceremonial duties. Most officers and NCOs Staff Sergeant and above usually have one,but they,re for ritual ceremonies and the like.Strictly ornamental. I suppose some do have their name engraved, just never seen one with a name.

Yeah and I’ve seen two of them online that they know the person’s rank his name and all that so I was wondering if that was inside the handle on the blade I don’t know

Vietnam War US Military Marine Corps USMC Officer Mameluke Dress Sword

Celluloid handle... possible white Bakelite.
My father's was won on a poker game pre viet nam. It was ivory. The other one was bakelite if I remember correctly. He was a mustanger & had great stories. I had a lot of fun being a pfc driving his car onboard base. The MPs tripped out, and when I went back to MCRD, THE prives would salute & I'd return it with a one finger. The looks I got were priceless!

I'd say break out the Duraglit and give it a light buff. Straight peroxide from a beauty supply will whiten up the handle. A little on a cotton ball or gause pad works great.

Nice catch!
