I use grass!

Hi all, thought I would put in a little humor to catch your eye! Here's an "in the field" way I pre clean my clad. (Clad only) After retrieval I stick the coin in between a tuft of grass squeeze and rub. Removes the dirt pretty good but of course you wouldn't do this with older coins. I keep a small bottle of water for that and a toothbrush to flick dirt off for dates or identification of a find.
Here's some finds from last wkend and this one. Had two first, my first silver foreign coin (1920 sixpence) and a radiator cap off a model T. (1909- late 1920's) Six pence at a elementary school along with football medal. Cap at long gone lumber mill site.'45 quarter, silver bracelet (whty for size comparison), spitfire plane, broken heart and junk jewelry at homesite hunt. Silver cross at rec baseball field. Anyway, thanks for peaking and try that grass you might like it! Lol!

Always liked sixpences.

1920 is the last year of the first coinage at .925 fineness. However, there is a 1920 second coinage in .500 fineness & I've never been about to tell them apart!

Thanks for the info Cru. Found this coin in small patch of grass at the elementary school. You might be able to tell by the signal difference on the heater

smart guy, I offten use wet grass to field clean a find and get a date if possibe on a minor coin. In my other pouch I have specilized grass which is very useful for continuing hunting unde adverse conditions.

Most of my clad is beyond the help of grass, so some vinegar, salt a good shake in a container, takes care of what grass does not!
