Looks real enough. (PS. although on a second look, needs more info)
Experts on IDing will need to see both sides with size & weight? (to see if it fits the Cert. story) Anyone can make theses types of Certificates, but some may know of that signature is linked to the study of the 1715 fleet coins.

It was hard to zoom in on the picture, which is one of the reason I asked for weight & other side pictures. Now you say that it might be a cast copy, I can now see some red flags but we still need better macro pictures, just to be sure.

I find that how with the new site it won't let us macro the pictures. On the old site I could enlarge the photo many times and if it was a in focus picture one could examine the find.

Gulfstream rarities has been known to decieve buyers !! Beware !! There is information online talking about this...including the great video ARC posted. I think there was a great thread or 2 here discussing these coins. I believe some were real and many were fake. From what I can remember some were pretty good fakes made from real silver !! Definitely need better pics and probably some magnified pics to see surface details !! Let's hope yours is real !!

On a side note:
I think there is a certain amount of value above and beyond the silver value on these particular fake cobs....just because of the press and notoriety of these counterfeits. These cobbs have a sort of cult status !!...... if yours is a counterfeit !!

I will see if admins can add macro or increase magnification steps .

I guess Kilotsky had no real interest in hearing our opinions, because they haven't been back since October 5. :laughing7:

Very Interesting.

I have had no dealings with Gulfstream rarities, but have a cousin who did invest with Mel Fisher long before his strike on the Atocha and made out large. He had a great story of travelling to Florida with other investors to haul their shares away before the booty could be 'secured'. He had so much he melted some down to make earrings and necklaces, besides selling as is. Just a few years ago he gave my wife and mom a few of the coins held in a bezel.

Is there a method to determine if the item is silver which is not destructive to the relic?
