Here where I live, villages were usually near water, but the person it belonged to may have been passing through. Maybe where you live short term camps were made not near water. I like to know why things were found at certain locations.

You asked what it is worth. That is a good question. Whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. I am sure yours is authentic but unfortunately Indian relics have been highly faked over the past years which has ruined the market. It is very difficult to tell fakes from the real thing for most folks. Same thing with certain Civil War relics. Check out ebay and listings for gorgets. Good luck selling if that is what you want to do. There are some Indian relic folks on here that can advise you but to get top dollar you likely have to authenticate. May cost more than it is worth. I would keep it as a memento and collectible. But that is me. Hope I helped you some but probably did not cheer your day up any.
