Finally got out and went to my 400 acre permission in central VA . In the past I have concentrated on one section of one field as it produced some nice confederate buttons however as that dried up I decided to explore the other fields as I was convinced based on the topography and area there has to be a colonial site somewhere on the property

I spent 3 hours in the middle of field with hardly any luck so decided to head back to my original confederate spot in hopes of maybe getting one more button. Once I got to my truck I decided to do one more sweep of the back side of field since I did not hit that area . Had no real optimism however started hearing tons of iron .

Had a deep signal so started to dig immediately saw huge oyster shells colonial brick etc. It had change of color etc and seemed like a trash pit. That’s where the decorative pottery piece was found and 2 feet down was a colonial hoe. I started to excavate the pit but only had about an hour left of daylight. So decided to come back to that another day and detected in immediate area and relics were flying out of the ground. highlights are the VA half penny, cut Spanish silver, beautiful assortment of buttons , colonial shoe buckle (I think dates to 1600s), and what I think may be part of a musket? What an incredible experience uncovering a lost unhunted colonial site . Can’t wait to return , I normally don’t dig pits but soil is really easy here so I’m going for it.
