Had the most incredible day digging in the Fredericksburg area the other day. After not finding much things changed very quickly. Here are most of the finds from 1 trash pit minus some of the leather. Basically I was hunting a CW camp and had a pretty choppy signal after opening the hole signal got a little better. Down about 12 inches I saw the breast plate lying vertically and was pumped to have found that but then I noticed another shape under the breast plate and that was the US boxplate right under it. I then opened the hole and noticed leather fragments everywhere, the pin pointer and detector were screaming. I proceeded to save 5 box plates and 2 breast plates, tons of leather with hooks attached, scabbard tips, waist adjusters, iron buckles, 2 canteen spouts one with a name or carved initials, rivets, etc all in one small hole about 2 feet wide. Needless to say it was a day I will never forget. Just shows you there are still honey holes left so keep swinging. I feel so blessed to have been fortunate to save these pieces of history and certainly will be looking for more pits.

Yeah, I'd say that was a productive hole.
What are your thoughts as to why all of that was in one hole?

I believe being a long winter camp once they left they discarded items they did not need anymore.

Un frigging real.

That just bends reality to the point of slapping your mind with awww.

I cannot say that I have ever seen that many plates dug at once... let alone one hole.

BANNER... if there ever was one.

Well damn done son.

A day like no other is an understatement .Fantastic find and save. It looks like the cover of a relic magazine. Neat seeing how some of the leather is attached. I regret throwing away the triangles pieces and the little round thing that looks like the top of a lamp when I started, lol. The context of all those different items together is priceless.
You have my vote also.
