I made a road trip a few weeks ago to Indiana and score a few points while I was there. The first day, I hunted some creeks with no luck. On the second day, I noticed a corn field that had just gotten plowed and it sat right on the bank of the East fork White River. Spent about two hours walking the field and found a small spot with a little debitage and a couple nice points. This is the first artifacts I've found outside of Florida. Meet an awesome old Amish farmer that had some great artifacts off his farm, and he doesn't even hunt for them. That story needs its own post. And yes, I have secured permission to hunt his farm after the harvest.

You killed it!!!! Jealous of the Hardin, but I am especially fond of the blade. I love the color. Congrats! Time to start an Indiana frame!

Nice finds , I’d say you did really good for a road trip. I love the 2 toned blade as well ... was that a corner tang on it ?

Looks like a good hunt! The good part about that area of Indiana is that you can still find a lot in the plowed fields, and farmers are pretty friendly. I am from a couple of counties north of there and we used to drive down an hunt a couple of big sites on the west fork of the White River.

I'd love to hear the story. The town my family is from in Northern Indiana was largely Mennonite, the town down the road is mostly Amish. They really don't collect things because of rules of practicality and vanity, but if something has value they'll set it aside and can end up with great collections that they don't call collections. Almost every Amish farmer I have met knows someone who buys relics.

My brother owns a cabinet Co if Fla, he does high end kitchens and baths. He specialises in Amish kitchens, and I pick the cabinets up in Indiana when he has no one to drive for him. As the Amish guys where loading the trailer this last trip, one of them found out that I had an interest in artifacts and he tells me I need to meet his grandpa. So I hop in his buggy down and he took me to meet him. The grandpa tells me that his family acquired the farm in 1902. He does not actively hunt artifacts but will pick them up when he sees them. He said he used to keep 5 gal buckets by his barn and they would throw the points in the buckets when they would find them. He said he had 3 or 4 buckets filled, but someone stole them a few years ago and he didn't have much left. He let me take a few photos of what he had left, and the ones he has picked up since then.

The bird effigy pipe and the Thebes are sick. I am going to try to buy the Thebes from him. I have never bought a point, but I might make and exception. I doubt he would part with the pipe, but we will see. His Grandson is going to call me when he is about to harvest, and I am going to run up there for a week to hunt. He has a artisan well on his property and what he says is a mound, although no one from the state has ever come out to confirm.

Wow. The Thebes is nice, but I would prefer the pipe. Granite Fort ancient pipes are rare. I d offer him money for the pipe.
