Iron hook/tool from CW cavalry camp. Anyone recognize it?

Found in a wooded area where lots of CW cavalry stuff has come out of the ground. Seems like a Federal cav staging area/camp for the battle of Aldie, VA (June 1863). You may recall that's where Custer first became famous...

Some modern items dug as well - including a large 20th C wrench and tons of shotgun brass. I know some mid to late 20th C farm equipment was abandoned there (now gone).

Plenty of old growth trees in these woods so I know it was never farmed.

Thought I'd give the forum a crack at this just in case...

What say you - before it goes in the scrap bucket?

Maybe that is all that's left of the camp hooker .. they wore her completely out.
