Hi all, dug this the other day at a site with an 1877 pat oil lamp in California. I'm stumped, any ideas?
Thanks!

I think a decent possible guess but I've found those before and this is bigger, and angled differently?? Almost reminds me of a stirrup but obviously not flat where it needs to be and a bit small for an adult

I'm not saying its wrong, but see how it sits flat on one side like a headlight lens from a bug? Its not bent either, it was cut that way.

Like on a singletree? It is flat on sides.
I see where the ID is going, if you look at this picture, mine is as if you cut straight down on the right side of the loop piece.

Stick it on the end and you won't need the flange extended out to both sides.
Lots of different rigs though.
This one has the flange extended over the end on the left. (It slid as the wood dried.)
Does it need to?

I'll stick a pole in it and get a picture but I think you guys might have identified it, just the angles are messing with my tiny brain

Keep looking. It does not have to be what I guess.

The side looks rubbed,or ground , facing your fingers in the one picture.
How or why who knows?

Without your hand in the picture and if it was an inch and a halfish in diameter it would closely resemble a license plate registration light lens holder/rim from the seventies. No , it's not one. They were more like pressed thin tin.
