Hello Forum,

I found this today at a city sidewalk replacement project. It bounced between gold and then copper. A magnet does not stick to it, and it is worn smooth. Can anyone help me to identify it?

Probably a copper slug from a utility box, most are steel knockouts but there are some copper boxes.

I did my best to clean, and take high resolution pictures of the front and back. Thanks for looking!

I knew a guy back in the 70s that made copper slugs the size of quarters and they worked in toll booths, pay phones and such.

Is it a worn coin? A planchet (blank disc before it got stamped)? Barter token for maybe the city market? I'm not sure what to make of it.

Because its smaller than any US denomination, it would seem to rule out planchet. The only US coin or token I can remember smaller than a dime was play money. Its possiby just a punch out.
