I found it right on the water at the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County, Maryland. It seems like it is ceramic. However it is very soft for ceramic. I think it is more like clay or even treated clay. Unfortunately it is broken if half :BangHead: :sadsmiley:

Don't think you have anything there. Just a water worn stone.

Scrocks, you know more than I do but check the broken hole out. I see a patina difference. It also has a perfect gorget shaped wing. Do you think it's possible this is a gorget that was ruined during drilling? It seems to me that natural water worn holes would have the same patina all the way through. Just wanting to ask your opinion on what I see. In no way am I challenging your statement.

NC I see where you are coming from. I have a couple broke gorget wings with the hole that do look similar. No expert but I'm pretty certain that's just a water worn stone. There was a post on another form the other day that showed good pictures of some stones with water worn holes in them.

I'll have to go along with SC, the holes look to rounded to be drilled. They look to be made by dripping water, the patina difference could be form the minerals in the water that made the holes JMO. Keep looking, your looking for the right things and sooner than later you will find one:thumbsup:

Search hag Stones

in the archaeological world, if it looks cool, and is soft it's an "ecofact" :)

Was it found near any pieces of flint ?

It was not found near any flint. It was right in the water on the surface at the bottom.

Only thought I had was an abrader but it is probably just a geo but you are in the right place if your near water ;)
