not seeing the face but good work on the shoe buckle
I see the face. Creepy... The metal could be spelter. It was a popular material for making all sorts of decorator items from figurines to lamps to clocks to ashtrays... Pretty much any decoration in a house from the 1880's to the 1940's could be made from spelter.

Awesome find, there maybe the tongue and chape (the 'guts' of the buckle) made of iron near the same hole so go back and check it.

It was so long ago I have no idea it’s just been in my office for like five years I would just look at it

Hey DC Matt I used to live in Reston and there is a colonial homesite in shaker woods park, think civil war soldiers camped there too..found eagle buttons good luck if you go there
I’ll check it out. Seems like I’m running out of dirt around here. Getting tough to find places to dig.

Cool, it's a really tough site to get into in the summer so now is about the right time. Park near water plant, follow path to end at other side road and cross creek top of hill. Cellar hole is trashy, been dug by lots of other diggers and had a homeless dude living there in eighties. but satellite the hill toward road and was finding buttons and roseheads. Never got into the creek and with Truth's post yesterday finding that powder flask makes me wish i water hunted the site.... added some pics of better finds from site (no coins tho)
