Just a guess:
People collect 'star' notes for the same value reason(s) you collect 'repeaters' and 'radar' notes.
Don.....
Although I look for them I have never found one(radar, repeater). I don't collect them, I just know that I can profit from them. But people pay more then face value for radars and repeaters because they like the "unusual" number sequences. I thought that a star note was a replacement of one that was taken out of circulation due to damage. If that's true I don't understand the "demand" (thus the ability to sell them for more then face value) for them. I am not being sarcastic I just want to know if these are worth attempting to sell them for profit.

dschler,
Your 1977 Star "K" note (Dallas) had a printing run of 6,656,000.
A few years ago that bill was worth (retail) $25, $35 and $100 in VF-20, EF-40 and Unc.-63, respectively.
You may wish to look up the current sales prices-under "Completed Transactions" (not asking prices) on Ebay.

I just picked up $100 series 2009A 10 bills in sequential order star notes. They start with LG then the number? Does that mean the whole sheet was destroyed and they replaced it?

Knowing a note is rare is one thing, finding out the value is another. Do anyone know where to find out the value? Thanks.

Jd,
I assume your bill is a $1 bill.
If so, there were 1,280,000 star bills issued by the Chicago issuing bank for the 2009 series.
The Official Red Book Guide to US Paper Currency" will give you an indication of its relative value versus other Star and non-Star bills. The 2016 edition put no premium value to your bill.
Ebay's "Completed Transactions" (not listing prices) will give you a more up-to-date indication of your bill's value. Keep in mind that 'condition' is paramont in the evaluation of any bill.

Okay, I just tried several different star notes with the star (star being the asterisk I guess?) and without and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong, any ideas?
