Finally got to work the new X-70 at an old homestead. Got skunked ::) Anyway got to really try out all the stuff I had been reading on. I found the two following items really work:
1. Troublesome signals- Switch to all metal and move coil a few millimetres to the left. If you hear a low dull tone and hollow sound it's not a coin. The low tone happens real quick so you have to be listening closely.

2. Switch to prospecting mode to identify iron- Scan and listen to threshold, if it cuts out it's iron.

The sweet thing about these two tips by Des Dunne, (Minelab) is that they really work. I dug several targets using the two methods above and they proved right. I'm really liking this X-70.

I sure like mine. I've had it for a couple months now, I think. On good targets it seems to be excellent. Like any other machine though, I am still learning the finer points of "iffy signals" I have dug some really cool stuff that was an iffy signal that just spoke to me. I am gaining ground on learning the finer points and think that listening to the signal is WAY MORE important than what the target ID says. Don't give up and by all means, don't just dig the 2 way good signals. Just my 2 cents.

I hunt in all metal, I think it makes it much easier to pull the high tone targets from all the junk, a lot of times you cannot even pinpoint there is iron on both sides, just wiggle the coil back and forth over the good target, and dig!
