Heavy rain this morning, but it was 60 degrees outside. When the rain turned to drizzle this afternoon, I hit the woods. Only one good find in two hours of detecting, an 1873 Indian Head cent. Really crusty out of the ground, but it cleaned up nice with warm hydrogen peroxide. Still has a little crud on it ,but I'm going to leave it alone. Not a bad day for mid-December in Rhode Island!

You may be need to consider if metal gets wet it in the ground it does becomes more conductive but so does the ground its self which is detected along with your target ,Ive always found when out having a days detecting best finds come after youve had your lunch.

I love hunting in the rain or shortly after. Congrats on the IHC, that’s a tough date to find

nice Indian head. Looks like the 'open 3' variety

Yes, definitely the open "3" variety, which is more common than the closed "3".

Thanks for all the great replies! Forgot to mention that it rang up as a 77 on my AT Pro, so I had a good idea that it was an IHC before I dug it. Strange how they ring up lower than wheaties, even though they're both 95% copper...
