I agree it's some kind of conglomerate. Any tips how to break it up without totally destroying it?
Rock saw. If you do not have one I would bet someone near you that does cabochons and/or members of a rock, gem, and mineral club have one. Google your area for clubs near you. They will be glad to work with you I am sure. Stop beating on it till you talk with them is my advise.

Periwinkle kryptoniteI would be very careful with that rock. Periwinkle kryptonite. A non-canonical variety. Exposure to periwinkle kryptonite causes Kryptonians to lose all their inhibitions.
