J.Jorgenson'830 fork

Hi Folks, Does anyone have any history with this hallmark? This is a fork I found a while back. I can find the hallmark Jorgenson but not J.Jorgenson'830. thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks, I did find that one but it didn't say j.jorgenson for the actual hallmark so I am not 100% sure if there was something different or another potential generation of Jorgensen silver Smith. I was leaning towards that being the one but they get pretty technical on marks.

That's a strange one. 830 would typically denote Norway having only a makers name next to the purity. The spelling of the name isn't right though. I would expect Jorgenson to be spelled with an E versus an O at the end if Scandinavian, maybe not though. Not much else it could be, I don't think. Maybe someone else will have an answer for that mark.

Where did you find a hallmark for Jorgenson? I can only find Julius Jorgenson & Son, New York. 830 has ever been an accepted silver standard in this country.

Pretty much what I am doing, again though with how exacting hallmarks can be it brings the questions in. Fun stuff either way

I hear you and I agree, it could be him. Seems to be the only one on the internet anyway. Still doesn't explain the spelling variance. The only Danes I know of that spell their name with an "son" versus an "sen" are immigrants that have anglicized their names to sound more English. It wouldn't be spelled that way in their own home country. That's all I'm getting at. Like you said start your research with him. Starting with his makers mark.

You are correct. I do not think it is a small thing. More than likely completely different maker. I can't imagine a maker would let his Mark be wrong on any work..thanks for catching that.
