Yes. The rosette in the center of the first image is the royal chrysanthemum crest of the emperor. I'll leave it to the better searchers for the date and denomination.

Looks like a "1 Sen coin dated Showa 19 (1944)"

Japanese Showa year 19 = 1944 (A good collection piece from Uncle)

Source:
http://home.att.net/~fukuoka/coins-1.htm

Update: Judging by e-bay sales it's worth maybe .50 Cents tops as a collectors item.

As of 8:40ish central time: 1.00 JPY (yen) = 0.00834967 USD

I dunno know how many sen are in a yen... and I don't do math in public, but that coin sure has little value except as a cool 1944 find! ;)

Thanks guys it was nice to find. Value is very rarely an issue with me, unless of course I could retire off of it.
How does the saying go ?
"I may be crazy but i'm not stupid"
Thanks again,
Mike

I too am also uninterested in value unless...

But when I ID something I figure the more information the better... that way you can tell everyone it's not worth anything and they will keep their mitts of it!

Cool!

100 Sen = 1 Yen. They haven't made/used Sen since just after the war.

The characters on the back translate to "Country of Nippon (Japan)" and the date is written right to left (old style) "Showa 10 (plus) 9 year" or the 19th year of the reign of Emperor Hirohito.

It is a tin zinc alloy.

MJ,

Yoku dekimash!ta! (HA! The forum tried to sensor my Japanese) Good job on the ID!
