Hi,

Ive been looking for a few years now for some kind value on this bottle I
have. It is a John Carbutt bottle. We know the history of John Corbutt,
however, we can not find any information about this bottle. We have made
more calls to more bottle places then I can count, only to be met with a
"You have a WHAT?!" Sorry Ma'm, but we do not have that bottle on record.

The bottle is thick glass. Cork top with some powder in it. We tried to
rinse it out, only to be met with cloudy fumes when we added the water. We
poured the water out and left it as it. Clear glass.

On the bottle, in raised glass are the words
John Carbutt
Wayne Junction
Philada

Manufacturer
of
Dry Plates
Celluloid
films and
photographic specialties

any information or perhaps who I can email/write/call next to find some kind
of value on this bottle would be appreciated.

Thanks much!

:BangHead:WATER? and FUMES? You are lucky that it did not explode in your face or taking your hands or other body parts away. If you ever have the absolute desire to clean a bottle make certain you know about the contents which you fully should have become aware when dealing with "Dry Plates, Celluloid films and photographic specialties." Celluloid-based photographic film was the forerunner of the stuff that most people are familiar with from Kodak, etc. As the former degrades it become highly unstable and can explode merely with exposure to the air as the oxygen and moister will activate it. That is why so much silent era film either no longer exists since it vanished or exploded upon opening of the canisters. You probably had cellulose fiber that reacted to the water. If you have any quantity of similar stuff in your possession you should consult a local authority who may confiscate it as an explosive in order to remove the danger from the general public as well as yourself.:BangHead:
