Did I find a kettle point? A few people on Facebook said a sickle mower blade, but I’m not sure I agree after looking at some photos. There aren’t any holes in it.
It was in the hole with a few small scraps of the same metal. I live along a river that was heavily guarded during the War of 1812 to keep the “hostiles” on the other side of the river. I have found a spearpoint in my yard as well as countless flakes and heartbreakers.
Any insight would be much appreciated. On a side note, I also found an 1899 IHP. Only my 2nd one from my 1800’s homestead. ❤️❤️❤

How thick is it? It does appear to be a tooth from a sickle bar mower. That being said it would likely have been around an 1/8th in thick. If it is very thin it would likely be something else.

Is it iron? All the ones I have from the East Coast are in brass with the exception of one stemmed iron one, They are extremely thin.

It’s very thin. A few pieces of construction paper thick maybe.

I’m assuming it’s iron. I couldn’t get a consistent VDI on it. The corrosion has affected it.
