Found this along with another base while mowing, thought of the recent post with the quartz point what are the odds it’d happen to me a day or so later? It Is from se Kansas, and fairly heavily damaged, oddly enough I think the tip is still there. I can’t decide what it is, it came from a spot that has produced likely early archaic and possibly transitional stuff but trying to keep that from swaying my Id, any thoughts?

The first one I am thinking was not finished so hard to say what it would have been.

There’s fine pressure flaking on the edge in the areas in blue, black is just a rough guess filling in the shape, I think it was once a nice piece, I found it in a spot that was kind of a brushy patch I knocked down earlier this year so it’s possible I damaged it with the mower before it was visible, or it could be an old break but it’s unusual breaking on the sides without losing the tip, I’d say possibly a drill but what’s left doesn’t show any attempts to work the broken parts

Archaic would fit with the other stuff, Kirk was kind of a hedge since there’s a lot of points in that cluster, but the barbs with the little bit of roundness and kinda thick look Thebes like, obviously a Snyder’s would fit the base and notches and probably more common but I don’t see any evidence that it was ever that ace of spades ♠️ shape and it doesn’t fit the other points on site so I’m not really confident in any of the choices over another… lost lake looked good except the beveling associated with them and I think overstreet mentioned fine parallel flaking this seems to be more of a random pattern

I noticed each side has a deep bowl shaped break and they are on opposite faces and edges. I wonder if someone hadn’t used a knife to try to pry or drill, it may not work this way, but I imagine a twisting motion could cause a break like that, at least that’s where the pressure would be
