hey there..foung this knife today any ideas about the maker and age?
also found a big silver ring. it looke like the stones are missing but when i look closly it looks like there could be mother of pearl inlayed?
the ring is not marked on the inside..only had time to dig 3 holes at an 1865 house..first came the knife then a huge chunk of lead and then the ring.
batteries ran down and had to get back to work..
hh.
thanks for looking...

Your silver ring could have had epoxy mixed with turquoise chips inlaid. Nice!

Pocket knives can be difficult to date. The shield marking is not much help if there is no marking in the shield, it seems like allot of companies used allot of the same shields or stamps shapes on the handles.I think allot of times to date them have to go by how the knife was made. All I can say is it looks like a Old bone handled one.Nice find.
