I bought 4 of these chairs at Goodwill recently. I did some research online and only found 1 similar with arms. A friend told me that it looked like a Shaker ladderback chair made in the Northeast part of the US. I love the style but am interested in the year manufactured, place of manufacture and value.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much, in advance.

Carole

Your friend might be correct. Give me a close up of one of the finials - that how you tell what village if it is shaker. The finial just doesn't look quite right do a close up will be better. I have a book entitled shaker chairs and ill see if I can find it. Many chairs produced by the shaker at mt Lebanon in ny had "decals" that said genuine shaker with a number that denoted the size. Look on the legs for the decal.

Currently this is the only close up I have of the finial. I hope it suffices. If not, will take another photo tomorrow and post it. Have included a photo of the seat area. Thanks very much for your help on this. Oh couldn't find any decals.

Give me a bit and ill break out the book. I collect shaker, but not the chairs so don't know off the top of my head. Might just be "shaker style". But liking at the wear they look old and not modern repros??

Although your chairs are quite lovely, they are not Shaker chairs made in the late 1700's, but reproductions. There were/are literally hundreds of furniture companies who copy the style of the Shakers. Neat find :) Breezie

Hello Carole, Even though I do appraisals, it's really hard to put a value on any item without seeing/inspecting them in person. :) Breezie
