I only found two coins, a wheat and Jefferson. The Wheatie has initials beat into the coin. First time I've ever saw a wheatie like this. I was in the area where I had recently found my Franklin Half
Enjoy the pix
What are your thoughts on the wheat being a love token?

That’s neat! I heard that sometimes they used to do that at certain stores to turn them into tokens. Not sure on this one!

I'm with cudamark; not a love token, just trial punching.
Don......

Yeah makes sense, the love tokens are usually much more eye appealing, plus the letters are very randomly placed and there is no "&" to denote a romantic couple.

Thanks Don and Cuda

Coins have been counterstamped for many decades. The reasons are nearly endless, but I have seen a number over the years that were stamped with the purpose of turning the coin into a token of sorts that was to be used at a specific store.

Here is a short explanation.

I'm thinking someone may have done that to see if they ever received that coin back in circulation. Neat find.

Thank you

The reasons are numerous, I'm afraid that it's another one of those metal detecting mysteries that keep me interested in searching.
Thanks

It could have been something that some teen made for his sweetheart or someone he liked. The letters are very symmetrical, almost too symmetrical for just trying out some punches. The set probably didn't have a "+" so he used an H instead which resembles it. BJ + BP. Definitely not in the same class as the traditional love tokens of the late 1800's hand engraved on a sanded silver coin, but could very well have served a similar function. Cool find.

If I was to make a plus sign, I'd either use the X and turn it slightly, or, a T......once right side up, and then flip it upside down overlapping the top.

I think that wheatie traveled 100 yrs back in time and got a lot of counterstamps due to its strange size and look. Nice finds buddy, I hope we can get out hunting soon
