This measures 1 1/4” across and weighs 16 grams. Pewter or lead I think. Help is greatly appreciated.

Heres one from one of my display boxes...pretty close to the same
I have no history on my piece I found it over twenty years ago on the shore in a old area
I was told it was of British origin but I cant back that up.
Neat piece Merf!
Thats it... amazing IronHorse... these have got to be rare.
Any chance for a backside picture ? and what is yours made out of ?

Also... and I know this is um.... well a buzz killer on this... but here goes anyway...
the thought has crossed my mind a few times... what's the chance these are swimsuit related ?
now i know that it was stated that the OPs buckle was quote "large"... so prolly not

Merf... i am at a dead end.... need to know for absolute if it is pewter or brass or ? ? ?

Try magnet as well just to be sure on that as well.

IF still unsure after trying ....
Try a slight streak test... do it from the broken off piece very gently... just enough for a rub... note the color... BOTH the piece AND the stone.

It is similar to a crude sand cast but it doesn't at the same time... in fact the more i look at it the more weird it becomes,

Also... The anchor ring differs from CS standards it seems... just a note.
Thanks for the info Arc. It is non magnetic. Here is a pic after a scratch. Not the color of brass. It is silvery color. What do you think?

Hmmm it being a white metal changes it being exact same as Iron Horses.

Weird... it being heavy and white your original assessment of it being pewter now again becomes front line.

Was it soft like pewter when scratching ?

I scratched it with a pocket knife and it seemed to be quite hard,

It looks brass in the picture & it is the tongue bit of the buckle.
'If' British, I suspect it's not Royal Navy as the fouled rope often goes behind the anchor first & not in front. Most likely Civvy, or maybe Merchant Navy....

I can get behind that assessment of the OP piece....origin could have been anywhere in the world as well
